East 86th Street Association Secures Commitment For Sanitation Improvements On Lexington Avenue

At the urging of the East 86th Street and with the help of Carnegie Hill Neighbors, Greenthal Management, and local community members, Council Member Dan Garodnick has announced plans for Sanitation improvements along the west side of Lexington Avenue. The improvements come on the heels of an East 86th Street Association survey of the sanitation conditions between East 79th Street and East 96th Street on Lexington Avenue, The Association suggested 13 corners that would be better served with the spill-proof large green rubbish bins as opposed to the outdated and smaller wire mesh cans. The Association rallied the community and asked for calls and emails to the local council member for help. To our delight, Council Member Garodnick was very responsive and quickly ordered not only new bins, but secured increased garbage pick-ups along the avenue. Thank you to the Council Member, well done!

While the west Side of Lexington falls in Council District 4, the east side falls in the 5th district represented by Ben Kallos. Kallos has been a reliable ally in the war on trash. We will be reaching out to his office to encourage him to replace the wire mesh bins on the East side of Lexington Avenue. If you want to lend a hand, you can reach Ben's office at 212-860-1950, or emailed at bkallos@benkallos.com.
